A closer look at the new 2019 Infiniti QX50

For Infiniti, the new 2019 QX50 is certainly the most important models ever launched by the Japanese luxury car manufacturer. Unveiled at the latest Los Angeles International Auto Show, the 2019 Infiniti QX50 will also be one of the most modern and advanced luxury SUVs in the industry. Offering several revolutionary technologies, the QX50 really has a lot to offer consumers. Here are a few things to know about the new 2019 Infiniti QX50.

Its VC-Turbo engine has no competition

The 2019 Infiniti QX50’s VC-T engine has no competition at the moment on the market. This is not surprising when we know that this engine required more than 20 years of development. No, we are not kidding around. What makes this engine so unique is that thanks to an unprecedented technology, this engine is able to vary its compression ratio.

The compression ratio of an engine dictates both its performance and its fuel economy. So, the higher the compression ratio, the more it will be efficient since it requires less fuel for a given level of performance.

Conversely, the lower the compression ratio, the more powerful and peppy the engine will be. In the case of the VC-Turbo engine (variable compression turbo engine), a multi-link system gives the engine the ability to change the stroke of the pistons according to the demands of the driver to increase the compression ratio from 8: 1 to 14: 1.

In other words, you get an engine that delivers top performance with 268 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, as well as an improvement in fuel economy of 30% over the previous model. A continuously variable automatic gearbox transmits power to all four wheels.

In addition to enjoying a new exclusive engine, the Infiniti QX50 also benefits from a brand new platform that is built with stiffer advanced steel. The torsional stiffness is notably improved by 23% compared to the old QX50.

And finally, the new QX50 will benefit from ProPilot driver assistance technologies. This system uses different sensors and radars to observe the road and prevent accidents while following other vehicles automatically. It can also keep the vehicle in the center of the lane without driver intervention.
