Understanding INFINITI Warranties in Canada: A Comprehensive Guide

If you're considering buying an INFINITI vehicle in Canada or already own one, understanding the warranties offered can be an essential part of your decision-making process. This guide will outline the different types of warranties that come with INFINITI vehicles to provide you with a clearer understanding of what is covered and what is not.

Basic Warranty

The basic warranty offered by INFINITI covers repairs required due to material or workmanship defects. This warranty is subject to certain limitations and exclusions which are detailed in your warranty booklet under "Limitations" and "What Is Not Covered."

Basic and Powertrain Warranty Duration

  • Basic Coverage: The basic coverage lasts for 48 months or 100,000 kilometers, whichever comes first.
  • Powertrain Coverage: This warranty lasts for 6 years or 110,000 kilometers, whichever comes first.

Powertrain Warranty

The powertrain warranty lasts for either 72 months or 110,000 kilometres, whichever comes first. Note that this is quite a bit longer than what most luxury automakers offer. This warranty covers the engine, transmission, and drivetrain components against material and workmanship defects. Like the basic warranty, this too has specific limitations and exclusions.

What is Covered in Powertrain Warranty

Your warranty booklet will provide more detailed information on what is covered or not in your warranty. However, here is a quick overview:

  • Engine: Includes cylinder heads, block and all internal parts, seals, gaskets, and more.
  • Transmission and Trans-axle: Covers case and all internal parts, electronic transmission controls, and more.
  • Drivetrain: Includes driveshafts, final drive housing, propeller shafts, bearings, seals, and gaskets.

Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Warranty

This is another warranty that lasts for 72 months or 110,000 kilometres. It covers the air bags and related electronic control systems, except for those listed under "Limitations" and "What is Not Covered."

Corrosion Warranty

INFINITI offers two types of corrosion warranties:

  • Surface Corrosion: Lasts for 48 months or 100,000 km and covers visible surface corrosion on any body sheet metal.
  • Perforation from Corrosion: Provides coverage for 84 months from the warranty start date against rust-through resulting in holes. This warranty does not require any additional rust-proofing.

Emission Control System Warranty

Components of the emission control system are generally covered for 4 years or 100,000 km. Some specific components (marked with an asterisk) are covered for 8 years or 130,000 km.

What is Not Covered in Emission Control System Warranty

  • Routine maintenance and parts replacement.
  • Damage or failures from misuse, accidents, or modifications.
  • Costs for diagnosing emissions test failures not covered by the warranty.

Deductibles for Warranty Repairs

Good news: there is no deductible for warranty repairs. INFINITI will cover the costs for both parts and labor. However, there are certain cases, such as batteries and tires, where you might have to pay some charges.

Towing Coverage

If your vehicle becomes inoperative due to a failure of a part that is covered under warranty, INFINITI provides towing service as part of the warranty coverage. This ensures you can get your vehicle to the nearest INFINITI service center without incurring additional out-of-pocket costs for towing.

Final Thoughts

INFINITI's range of warranties aims to provide comprehensive protection for your vehicle, covering everything from basic parts to advanced systems like the emission controls. Knowing what is and isn't covered can save you both time and money in the long run. Always refer to your official INFINITI warranty documentation for the most accurate and detailed information.
